Why Cowboys and Aliens is sure to be awesome

Full disclosure: I haven’t yet seen “Cowboys and Aliens,” but I intend to this weekend. I’m a huge fan of big Hollywood movies that cost over $100 million (my brother John has a great opinion on this — if Hollywood is going to dump $100 million on the big screen, let’s at least go see what $100 million looks like. I fully anticipate that I will not only love “Cowboys and Aliens,” but that I’ll buy it on DVD so that I can enjoy it for years to come in the comfort of my own home. Why? Let’s take a look.

First off, the movie is about two genres that everyone loves: Western and Sci-Fi. Westerns are pretty cool, and Sci-Fi movies are even cooler. And loved and adored by all.

Then let’s take a look at the cast. You have Daniel Craig, who plays 007. You have Harrison Ford, who plays both Han Solo and Indiana Jones. Daniel Craig also played one of the two brothers in “Defiance,” which if you haven’t seen it, just absolutely rocks. Both have been in movies that have grossed tons of money and will surely bring their A-Game to a movie like “Cowboys and Aliens.” I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we can’t wait to see James Bond team-up with Han Solo and fight aliens under the backdrop of the Old West.

Then you have the production team. Ron Howard + Steven Spielberg. Come on. That’s insanely awesome. So now you have Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg, the teams that brought us Apollo 13 and Indiana Jones saying hey, let’s get together with the director of Iron Man and let’s hire James Bond and Han Solo and let’s have it be about cowboys fighting aliens.

Not sure about the rest of the cast or who’s in it — I think Sam Rockwell’s in there somewhere, and he was the corporate guy in Iron Man 2 and turned out a pretty good performance. Also there’s a love interest and probably a Sheriff in there somewhere. Let’s hope they were smart enough to hire Michael Ironside or Ronny Cox for that. I’d take a look at IMDB but I’d rather not spoil the whole movie.

Anyway, let’s all go see Cowboys and Aliens and have a great time at the movies.

Happy Summer!
