After you learn to fish, feed the fish.

zenview_command_center_eliteWhen I first got an account on Facebook about a year and a half ago, it was during a time when a lot of my friends were getting on Facebook.  It was back in the day when Vampire Bites and Mafia Wars were still somewhat new and not wholly annoying.  My friends also convinced me to get onto LinkedIn and (finally) Twitter.  Twitter was ironically the easiest to join, understand and update — though was (and is) the biggest pain in the ass to update.  Why?  Because everyone expects awesome Tweets.  But I don’t throw a Tweet out there more than once or twice a day.  I like to feed the network, but I don’t overfeed so much that the fish get fat.  Everyone says that you have to be on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, have a blog, use a cell phone, microwave that hot pocket using amazing new RadarRange technology.  But I think your customized free online marketing package depends entirely on your profession, point of view, what you’re saying, and who’s reading your stuff.  Beware those who say “Everyone needs to be on Twitter!”  Everyone does not need to be on Twitter.  So, really, whether you’re on Twitter or not doesn’t really matter to me. What matters?  Well.  If you’re on one of those outlets and you start doing regular updates, keep-up with the updates. The  fish have to be fed.  Mostly for blogs, really.  When we see a blog that hasn’t been updated in a few months, the time lag is like a virtual calendar of cobwebs. And to keep it regular, all you need is a simple system. It’s amazing what you can do with a few bookmarks and a daily 10-minute link of this thing here to that thing over there.  And once you do something every day around the same time of day, people actually come to expect it and then tell you in person that they are aware of your daily thing that occurs at the same time every day.   This information is not new or groundbreaking.  Just an observation from someone who doesn’t have a graduate degree in social media but does like to create a system and repeat it.  See you in a month or two.
