I don’t have a degree in computer science or any type of design, but I’ve been contracting out websites for 3 years and if there’s one thing I’ve always wondered it’s what “Lorem Ipsum” really means. For the uninitiated, Lorem Ipsum is the dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. It’s just a collection of the same standard words that always appear on sample pages for websites so that clients can see where text goes — and it’s actually been around since the 1500′s. Story goes, a typesetter took a gallery of type and jumbled it all up to make a sample book. Lorem Ipsum text seems to have a generally-accepted normal layout of letters — and it’s easier than writing “Hi Don, your content will go HERE!” or “Marcia would like the subscription button to go HERE!” According to Lipsum.com: Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. So, there’s that. Even Cicero the great public speaker knew benefits of guiding clients through approval processes one step at a time.
