Process Design Goodman Theatre

The Goodman is Chicago’s oldest and largest not-for-profit theater and focuses heavily on community and educational programs. The Goodman’s Education Department approached Marshall Creative with a problem: they needed us to invent, produce, and deliver an accessible online portal where teachers in Chicago Public Schools could upload, share, and comment on course materials, successes, challenges and synthesis.

Over the course of a year, Marshall Creative met with top management at the Goodman to build a custom-made teacher portal for dialogue and information sharing, as well as a lesson plan database. This database allows the Goodman Education Department to create a standardized lesson plan and rubric that all teachers in the program implement in the classroom to assess their students, and allows innovative teachers to share their own lesson plans with other teachers in the program. The program encourages teachers to seek creative alternatives to standardized testing and use engaging performative assessment techniques through class presentations, essays, and performances — and the database then captures and measures the results of that encouragement.
