  • Troubleshooting

    First we're going to confirm a few things.
    A lot of times, issues are temporary: we want to be sure this is an actual bug before we try to fix it.

    To give you a fast browsing experience, most browsers keep copies of pages you've visited - what's called a cache. A lot of the time, problems that look like bugs are just a result of your browser showing you an old copy of your site, rather than what's actually there.

    To refresh your cache:

    Internet Explorer 7: Click Tools >> Internet Options. Under Browsing history click Delete then click Delete cookies. Click Close, and then click OK to exit.

    Internet Explorer 8 and 9: (In Internet Explorer 9, you first click Tools.) Then click Safety >> Delete Browsing History. Select ONLY Temporary Internet files, Cookies, and History, then click Delete.

    Safari: Click Safari >> Reset Safari. A pop-up will appear: check ONLY Clear history, Reset all location warnings, and Remove all website data. Then click Reset.

    Firefox: Click Tools >> Clear Recent History. A pop-up will appear: for Time range to clear, select Everything (and ignore the warning that pops up), then click the down arrow labelled Details. In the list below that, check ONLY Cache, then click Clear Now.

    Chrome: Click Chrome >> Clear Browsing Data. A pop-up will appear: for Obliterate the following items from: select the beginning of time, then check ONLY Empty the cache from the list, and click Clear browsing data.

    iPhones: From the home screen, tap Settings, and then tap Safari. At the bottom of Safari's settings screen, tap the buttons for Clear Cookies and Clear Cache. To confirm, tap Clear Cookies or Clear Cache again.

    Android phones: Start your browser. Tap Menu >> More >> Settings. Under Privacy settings, select Clear cache, and then tap OK.

  • Background Information

    Now we need to get some basic information to help us narrow down the problem.
    Different browsers can show the same website very differently - they all have their own quirks. Select any/all browsers that you have seen this issue on.
  • Different versions of browsers have different issues. Weird, I know. Imagine how we feel!

    Chrome: Top left of your screen, click Chrome >> About Google Chrome. It will open up a new tab: look for something like Version 21.0.1180.89.

    Safari: Top left of your screen, click Safari >> About Safari. A popup window will open: look for something like Version 6.0 (8536.25).

    Firefox: Top left of your screen, click Firefox >> About Firefox. A popup window will open: look for something like 14.0.1.

    Internet Explorer: Below the address bar (near the top left of your screen), click Help >> About Internet Explorer. A popup window will open: look for something like Version: 8.0.6001.18702.

    Certain things may work differently depending on whether you are logged in to your site or not. If you are logged in, you should see a dark grey Admin bar across the top of your screen, which has (among other things) your site's name on the far left, and your login name at the far right (like "Howdy, Dan Granata."
  • Bug Description

    Now we need some detail about what happened.
  • Copy and paste the FULL URL of the page with the error (including http://)
  • OPTIONAL. If you clicked something to go someplace else, and then got an error, give us the FULL URL of the page you were coming from (including http://)
  • Just a description of what you were trying to do when the problem occurred.
    • "I was trying to create a new post."
    • "I was trying to add dates to an event."
    • "I was trying to look at the blog."
  • Describe what happened that was unexpected.
    • "I clicked on 'Publish' and then the screen went white."
    • "I tried to enter a date for the performance, but the calendar pop-up thing didn't come up."
    • "I went to the blog page, but there was a garbled bunch of code or something I didn't understand. I attached a screenshot."
